Phils Win Duel In The Desert

The Phillies should really be commended for what they did tonight. They were able to get Dan Haren out of the game in only five innings. Powered by Shane Victorino the Phillies were able to muster three runs off of Haren. Cole Hamels also helped himself out in the fifth inning which led to two runs for the Phillies.
Cole Hamels was really good tonight. All season long we have been looking for Hamels to be consistent. Now, Cole has thrown two good outings in a row. Hopefully this is just a stepping stone to something that could be great. Cole ended up pitching eight innings and only giving up one run. Brad Lidge came into the game in the ninth inning looking to save the game. The Phillies were leading 4-1 and the only runs Lidge gave up was a two-run homerun to Mark Reynolds.

Phillies:
J.A. Happ, who has been the source of trade rumors in recent weeks, is 7-1 with a 2.97 ERA this season. He suffered just the second loss of his career Friday against the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park. It was his first loss in 32 appearances - his last coming June 30, 2007.
Diamondbacks:Yusmeiro Petit has been very inconsistent this season. His last time on the mound, the right-hander was charged with six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings for the loss against the Pirates, his fifth loss of the season. He pitched six solid innings in his previous outing against the Cardinals but struggled with his command in the start that followed.
